Orangutans are shy, high profile animals that are active during the day. They live alone in large territories. Can you think how they can get food? They need a large area in order to get enough food. If too many orangutans in one area, it can make them fight each other to get food.

Sleeping Platforms:
Each evening, orangutans will construct a place or nest on a tree branches for the night to sleep. These nests are made out from leaves and branches. Nests are shared by a mother and her nursing offspring. Sometimes, the orangutan will use a leaf as a "roof" to use when it rains. Orangutans often sleep temporary in the afternoon after a morning spent obtaining food.

COMMUNICATION AND VOCALIZATION
Male orangutans are capable of very long, loud calls that carry through forests for up to O.6 mile (1 km). The call is made up of a series of sounds followed by a buzz. These calls help the male claim his territory, call to females, and keep out introducing male orangutans. Males have a large throat sac that lets them make these loud calls.
